AF works fine with the lens as such, as well as with the 1,4 x TC. Speed and noise are the same as with other high-quality screw-driven AF lenses. Of course there is more noise than with SDM lenses, but I have not found it a problem.
With the 2 x TC the lens becomes a MF lens in practice.
It is true that SR is set for 500mm despite the TC. I have not found this to cause problems though.
Before purchasing the lens I also thought about Sigma possibly doing an upgrade to SDM/HSM. I have no insider information, but their focus seems to on zoom lenses
