There are generally two different ideas on this. One is to set the lens at the lowest focal length so the SR mechanism doesn't over compensate. The other is to set it somewhere near the middle so it "balances out" so to speak. I've tried both, with my Pentax A 70-210, setting it at 70mm for several days shooting and setting it at 150mm for some other days of shooting. I've found a very slight advantage to the 150mm setting, but I think you could argue either way.
