The F is clearly superior over the FA.
At f2.8 the FA suffers from low contrast.
Resolution is about the same.

The F version is likely a rare lens indeed.

Is that the same as the FA version which is what I have? It hardly has a bokeh as its depth of field is relatively big and it is not quite fast. It is a perfect party lens though. One time I was stuck in the middle of the dining table and I handed my K100D over to a waitress to take picture of the group. I figured it out that at 28mm and at 1/25x with SR, it should be ok. Little did not know that it was dim and the lens was wide open with TV.

A series of M28 pictures

For those who can live without auto focus the M28 F/2.8 is a wonderful alternative. Last weekend, I made a series with it about pumping engines. You may ignore the text (in Dutch!), but the pictures speak for themselves at

Nice collection Arie

Gee I recall now that I had the M28mmF3.5. Sharp sharp lens man . And it was cheap too. A classic tool with perfect manual focus ring. It is still not quite pricey now

If ever ever Pentax has a FF dslr, it will be a perfect perfect wide lens.
