18-55 al -vs.- al II

Believe it or not the widest lens I own is a 28mm so I was going to head over to ritz and pick up an 18-55 for $55 to "tide me over" until I can afford something better. Now I'm wondering if it's worth scraping up the difference to get the al II version. I'm using a K10d and don't plan to upgrade bodies for a long time.

I am one of those who feel the new kit II is a worthy upgrade, however for the price you can get the kit I for at Ritz, head there as fast as you can

That's exactly where my thinking ended up! It turned out to be $59, but I'm not complaining!

Both versions are good in the 18~35mm focal lengths, if you only plan on using the wide-end.
