Are you considering a particular focal length? There are a lot more FA* versions out there.

DA* have the avantage of WS and a better finish.

FA* zooms (some at least) have Power Zoom, a nice feature.
DA* have SDM. Still not confident in that system.

I'm torn between the two, so I'll comment but not vote...
Love my two FA LTDs (77 and 31). Love the build quality (which I believe is the same as the DA LTDs). Love the speed (1.8). Envy (rightly or wrongly) the apparent quicker AF of the DA LTDs. Envy the size of the DA LTD's (especially when I see the new Pentax lens case that holds 3 DA LTD's.) Like the thought of the FAs being full frame, but lately I'm becoming convinced that I couldn't care less about ff. Also love the "single outdoor lens solution" provided by my 18-250 DA, and the great inside lowlight capabilities of my 50-135 DA*.
Bottom line...they all need luvin', and provide plenty in return.

I chose FA* simply because the offerings were a much more complete system than can currently be had with DA* lenses. 85mm f1.4, 300mm f2.8, 200mm f4 macro for example. The easy to remove paint is unfortunate but cosmetics really don't matter when taking pictures.

I dont own any FA* so I had to vote DA*, but the one thing I prefer about the FA*s are the HUGE PENTAX lettering on the hoods. C'mon Pentax, where's the pride at?

BTW, FA* 200 f/2.8 and DA* 200 f/2.8 have the same optical formula.

I voted FA* even though I don't own any. The primary reason for voting this direction is that I do regularly shoot film too.

I preferred Da* given that I have tried most fa* zooms...

Da* is just a tad better with build and speed. Less likely to get paint loss.

I'm reading this again and thinking that I may have misunderstood the question. Are you comparing the FA vs DA, or the FA vs DA*?

Pardon my ignorance as I never realized there was a FA* line up. (I just saw them in the lens review.) Please disregard my comments about the 31, 77 etc...
