21mm DA Limited AF problems?

In reading about this lens I read reports dating back to 2007 of the 21mm Limited exhibiting focus issues, as reported by benjikan, blende8, etc., and confirmed by roentarre. Some highly respected members of this forum have experienced it, so I'm sure it's not just forum noise.

Does anybody know if this is a lens design issue or a copy-to-copy variation? Has there been any official acknowledgment of this problem and the actual reason for it? Also, does this issue still exist with new copies of the lens?

To the best of my knowledge, this was solved after a certain serial number.
Don't know which one though. Anyway, a new(er) copy should be fine.
But it is always highly advisable to test a new lens out in the store - or within the available return period.
Copy to copy variations do seem quite real and not specifically for the 21DALtd.

PS this was never officially acknowledged.

The focusing issue rears it's head when the DA21 is mounted on to the K10D. No more issues when mounted on K20D.

I had a K10D with DA 21mm. The combination worked great for me.

I've used my DA 21 with three bodies (DS2, K10D and K20D) and it seemed to behave about the same as all of my lenses vis a vis AF behavior. It was perhaps, a little more funky with my K10D, but that was true for all of my lenses.'

I have sold my DA21, bought a Sigma 20/1.8, and don't look back.

The only advantage of the DA21 is that it is small. Everything else is nothing to rave about.
I don't know if the focussing error has been corrected. I hope so.
I only know that lenses experiencing the focus jump cannot be corrected at the service.

Heard this a number of times too. What camera are you using Yohan?

I also had af problems with the k10d when using da21. After getting k20d it's been one of my favorites. Also tested it with k100ds and it seems to work fine.
