Problem with my DA 40mm

Received my DA 40mm from B&H. Everything looks good, until I notice a soft click when I turn the focus ring. The click happens right between the 5ft and 1m mark. The soft click is audible and there is a tiny bit of resistance when I turn the focus ring past that mark. Doesn't seem to affect the auto or manual focus though. It works well otherwise and I love the lens.

Anyone experienced anything similar to 40mm or other lenses? Can't imagine that this can be normal, so I think I have to return it. But it is a pain to do the return or exchange with mail order, even more so when I am in Canada. Anyway to avoid getting hit twice by the tax and custom?

This lens was out of stock everywhere I looked in Canada, that's why I have paid a little bit more to get it from B&H. I am debating whether to ask for an exchange, or a refund and wait for it to be in stock in Canada. I am just wary that a second copy from B&H could have other problem. This type of overseas back and forth could get more and more expensive each time.

I've experienced this with a used F 35-70mm- I promptly replaced it with a mint copy.

The click means that there's something wrong with the mechanics inside the lens. It's still usable, but you might find it annoying after a while

I just purchased the DA 40mm here in Toronto at Aden Camera - Aden Camera which was the only place I found that had them in stock.

If you do plan to return yours, give them a try.. I think do they online orders.

Everywhere else was out of stock and said it'll take 2 months to restock!

I'd return it. I just got a new DA 40mm yesterday and it doesn't do that.
