Looking for a lens to mach canon 24-70L

I need something better then the 16-50 da*

And have looked around and not sure wich one to go for.. The more natural choise is the sigma 24-70 with hsm, but havent seen any excamples with it.

what would be the lens that fits pentax that is as good as the canon 24-70L?

The Sigma 24-70 is supposed to be even better than the Canon 24-70L. Google it up, there are some detailed comparisons of the two lenses.

The Tamron 28-75 F2.8 XR DI Is a very good lens. Never having used the 24-70L, or even seen photos from it (that I know of anyway) I can't comment on any type of comparison, but if I was suddenly limited to one lens the Tammy 28-75 one would be it.

In Canon-land, the Tamron 28-75 is generally thought to be optically on-par (or close enough) with the 24-70L. It lacks in the autofocus speed and build-quality department, but considering the price difference, the 28-75 is a VERY good buy!

Also, the new Sigma 24-70 HSM is getting very good reviews, with many folks thinking it BEATS the 24-70L.

So if you shoot Pentax, the Tamron 28-75 is pretty much a no-brainer. I shot with it when I shot Pentax, and I loved it!

When I was looking for something to bridge between my sigma 10-20mm and my 70-200F2.8, I looked at 3 options

sigma 24-60 F2.8, Sigma 24-70 F2.8 and Tamron 28-75 F2.8.

I ended up with the tamron, which is (or at the time was) rated best in IQ.

Overall I have been pleased with it, although I find from time to time it focuses incorrectly, specifically in high contrast situations on my *istD.

I also think the sigma mechanical build is perhaps a little better, when I compare my 10-20 or 70-200 to the tamron 28-75.

one of the deciding factors for me was that I already had some special filters at 67mm, including graduated ND filters and circular polarizers, which I use on my SMC-FAJ 18-35. commonality of filters is important, the 24-60 uses 77mm (which my 10-20 also uses) but the 24-70 uses 82mm filters which I have none of.

devisor: I've been looking at the Sigma 24-70 HSM for the same reason you have been looking at that range (portrait/studio lens). Here are all the reviews I've gathered on it...I've been updating this thread as I've found stuff:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-slr-lens-discussion/51046-sigma-24...ighlight=nutty

Willing to be the first guinea pig? ;-)

The Tamron 28-75 supposedly has worse edge performance but in most cases, you'll use both stopped down to f/8 in the studio...

My order of preference having used these three extensively is that the image quality is the inverse of the price. I think the Tamron 28-75mm is the best but for those who worry about getting a good copy of the 16-50 your odds are even worse with the Tamron. I like the 16-50 better than the Canon and I like the Canon least of all. When it comes to sharpness the Canon wins but for overall image quality I like it the least.

I'm curious why you are stuck on zooms? The LTD's are better than any of these zooms. You take some fantastic pictures - I think your photography might deserve a couple of nice primes

About year ago i was comparing my k10 (sold) and 16-50f2.8 (replaced for a new one) and 30d with 24-70 and apart from colors i couldn't point a winner... so its strange for me to acknowledge that 24-70 is that much better at alll...

As someone who has never used any of the lenses in question, my opinion isn't really worth much. But, based on samples I've seen, and general reputation too, I'd say *none* of the lenses for Pentax being discussed here are "better" than the 16-50. Unless of course the focal length range appeals to you more.

Ditto on this lens. Canon 24-70mm f2.8L is over-priced, yet rendering purple fringes unlike most canon zooms. Corners appear unsharp approaching 70mm and yellow colour rendering is somewhat dull.

Tamron is a bargain buy.

Tamron 28-75

For some time I've looked for lens in this class for Pentax. I decided to buy tamron 28-75. From begining of 2008 it is my walkaround during all trips. Opticaly it is no brainer for Pentax. Even if it looks and feel crappy I had no problems with it regardless it was Antarctica or India.

What I lack is 24-28mm. But here I always had second body with Pentax 12-24

Are you really saying you've been shooting Pentax on the Antarctica?

In case you weren't just joking or using it as a general comparison, how did you DSLR body work there considering Pentax is only since K-7 talking about -10 degrees centigrade (a mildish winter temperature!)?

Look at his pics and you'll see the Antarctica shots! Great shots, piotr!

I was surprised when they said that about the K-7--I've been out with the K20 in lower than that and just figured it could handle it!

I'm also wondering how the new Sigma 24-70 fares. That's a great range. (just thought I'd write something on topic!)

I too had the Tamron 28-75 and sold it when I got the 16-50 and the 50-135. Sometimes I miss the Tamron for its range, but I didn't find it wide enough at the wide end. A 24-75, I'd take! If the Sigma beats the DA* zooms in IQ, it'd be worth a look.
