Need info on lens

What can you tell me about this lens?

100-300 F4.5-6.7 SIGMA DL SILVER (55) WITH HOOD, CAPS, 35MM SLR AUTO FOCUS ZOOM TELEPHOTO LENS

Any good for my MZ-7? I assume it's K mount....correct?

I've found this at a very reasonable price and if any of you can okay it, I'll buy it next week.

I just recieved one as part of a package where I wanted the 28-105. I haven't used it yet, but everything I've read is that it's just an ok lens. Just do a google search and you'll get some hits. I'll probably end up selling this as well.

From the information you've provided I don't think there is any way to tell what mount the lens is for; Sigma has manufactured lenses for most common mounts and it will likely say somewhere on the lens what camera brand it was intended for.

Is the lens being advertised as K-mount?

Thanks Oldschool.

Steinback, it was listed under Pentax Autofocus lenses where I buy my equipment.

Also, wanted to know Sigma's rep. The last Sigma lens I had was a 28-70mm and ended up getting fungus inside, after that I steered away from them.

I ended up with that Sigma and a Quantaray-branded lens that was nearlly identical, in some accidental eBay transactions. One was supposed to be a Pentax FA 100-300 and the other one had no details. I think one of the lenses had a plastic mount but I am not sure. The Quantaray worked smoother. The Sigma had a sticky zoom. They were largely plastic inside, compact and light.

IQ was not spectacular. I compared it to my Tamron 28-300 superzoom and it was about the same. On film it might have more flaws, and f6.7 makes the long end pretty dark. If it is a K-mount it should be completely compatible. The price should be within that cheap zoom category, around $100 or less because it's an older design.

Like all manufacturers, Sigma makes great lenses and not-so-great ones. As for fungus, well, it is more an environmental issue than a lens issue (any lens can develop fungus in the wrong conditions).

No idea about the specific Sigma lens in question, sorry.

Thanks for the replies. Marc, I was thinking that if the lenses from Sigma were tightly sealed, then fungus would have a harder time forming. I used mine in MN, under normal conditions and I've always taken care with my equipment.

This lens is being offered for less than $50. So, I think, I'm going to take a chance on it. If it's does not perform well, I can always tuck it away somewhere and buy the Pentax FA 100-300mm.
