Please recomend me a good prime lense for 28-50mm for k10d

Hello everyone.

I'm looking for a sharp prime lens from 28mm to 50mm. I will be taking regular pictures of nature / portraits etc...

my budget is bellow $400.

Thank you for your advices.

P.S. I have a 14mm DA - not really happy with that but it's ok lens. May be I'm just don't know how to take good pictures but it's not my favorite lens at this point. Also I have 28-80mm old Tamron lense which is good but not good enough (it's a cheap lens I bought for $30)

Do you need AF? F 50 f/1.7 (which you can only find used) and FA 50 f/1.4 are very good AF primes below $400. You can find pretty samples on flickr. You can also stick a diopter on them and shoot macro.

Here's the whole K mount gamut:

You can get a DA 40mm Limited and a FA 50mm f/1.4 for around $400 total if you bargain-hunt.

I would like to have AF.
So what's the price range for a good brand new prime lens?

I haven't done any tests with ISO lens resolution charts, so I won't comment. I own the manual focus, manual aperture, M 50 f/1.7, which has the same optical formula as F 50 f/1.7, but wide open, the biggest challenge is to actually get the subject in focus.

BUT, at f/4, FA 50 f/1.4 produces pretty much the best resolution you can get with any lens--in the center at least. There's Photozone and LensTip.com, if you enjoy reading this kind of stuff.

what do you want the lens for???
If portraits, then go for 50/1.4 (or 1.7 if you'll find one).
40 on the other side is smaller, slower but with faster AF and much more uniform sharpness across the whole frame.
So it's really down to my question. Don't choose the lens because other people tell you so, think what you need/want it for and decide accordingly.

K 50/1.2

If you can live without AF take into account Pentax K 50/1.2. You can buy it for about 400$ (or less). It is sharp as FA 50/1.5 and in addition has f1.2 which gives you magic bokeh.

I want this lens for a general use. It should be a main lens on my camera.

I take a lot of pictures of my guitars / family / nature / this is some pictures I've taken recently with 28-80mm (very cheap lens) and the last one DA 14mm (i'm not using a lot)

I have DA 14mm and later want to add a telephoto lens for traveling something like 50-135 or 55-300mm (depends on my budget)

for general walkaround 50 is bit too long IMHO, even my 40 is pushing it a bit (unles you're used to 58mm on film) idealy 30-35. Those focal lenghts would make nice general usage lens.
So:
FA35
DA35
FA31
F28
Sigma 30/1.4
Sigma 28/1.8
That's just a few AF options, IMHO you can't go wrong with any. If you have cash, you can't beat 31 but for $400... I just don't think so. My wote goes for either FA or DA 35

good luck choosing
