Well, I own the Pentax F 1.7 x adapter. How do you think it will play with my K10D and the coming SDM lenses? The adapter has seven contacts on the camera side but only six on the lens side.

It'll work just like it does with all other F/FA lenses.

The SDM won't be enabled since the electrical contacts won't be connected to the camera.

Meaning the camera will think a manual focus lens is mounted. So no SDM and the adapter will focus, but only within its range.

CAn anyone her tell me whether the optical quality of this 1.7x is better/same as the 1.4/2x adapters? And how would it compare with a Tamron 1.4x SP AF converter?

I only have the 1.7x so I can’t compare, but here is a picture taken with my FA 28-70 4.0 AL and the 1.7x. ISO 400, f/9.5, 1/350, 120 mm. Some flare from the front door windows, but if you look at the shadows you see where the sun is.
