How well can Pre-DA lenses 'talk' with external flashes? From which series do they work as well as DA lenses when it comes to AE combined with a flash? From the A-series on?

I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but I believe that anything from an 'A' lens onward should function the same with P-TTL flash (I'm assuming we're talking about P-TTL, as an 'auto thyristor' flash can be used with anything using the flash's own light sensor). Go to an 'M/PK' lens, M42, etc., and the P-TTL flash will fire full power so you'd have to resort to manually compensating based on flash guide number, focus distance, aperture, & ISO setting.

So for the amount of light all that's needed is an automatic aperture? How about zooming, isn't there a chip involved with telling the flash how far too zoom?

I have found that my KAF2 lenses (power zooms) modify the zoom of the flash, although I have some questions regarding the zoom, which pentax has not answered to my satisfaction, and I think there is some confusion between flcal length and FOV for some of the zooms and my AF540TGZ
