Samsung Schneider 12-24mm f/4 ED AL D-Xenon

Hi!
Do somebody know something about this lens? Some experience/opinion? I don't find any review/test. Is it similar with Pentax 12-24? Thanx!
Regards!

I wouldn't be surprised if it IS the Pentax 12-24, just with a different label on it. That's certainly the case with the 18-55 kit lens - Pentax lens, badged as a Schneider on the Samsung.

I believe its badge engineering at its finest. ie its the same lens as the pentax

Same with the 100mm macro.

I would bet is the same Pentax 12/24, that really is a Tokina...

It reminds me a bit of the auto industry... remember the Pontiac Lemans back from the 80's?, well, that car was built by Daewoo in Korea, but the original design and concept came from Opel in Germany... but everything under the GM umbrella....

Back to the lenses, I will suspect Schneider will not allow some "third party" product be labeled as Schneider, but since Samsung now owns Schneider, I guess they can use the label as they please...

Are you sure it's a rebadge Tokina. I think the Tokina is a rebadge Pentax. It came out as a Pentax before it came out as a Tokina.

As far as I know they "collaborated" on the design, which probably means one funded and the other did the grunt work.

The way I understand it as long as the lens meets certain specifications they will license the Schneider name for use on the lens. I'm pretty sure Pentax glass will more than meet those specifications

I read on DPReview that the 12-24 was actually a Tokina design, unlike the 16-50, 50-135 and other, which are joint designs.

The samsung lenses are pentax lenses. I have the 50-200. Same coatings, quickshift ect.
Tokina share some designs with pentax but mechanicals, coatings and adjustments are different.

Thanx everybody for your answers!

I also believe it's a rebranded Pentax.

Pretty much; there's been alot of debates on whether the Samsung has SMC... from the samples I've seen (not much since it's not common) it seems like they are identical.

Oh and the samsung should have a somewhat lower value, due to it being samsung... Unless the buyer is some samsung purist (even rarer than the lens, lol)

Now Andi--that is not polite--LOL, and very unlike you too. However, it is one of the few lens' names that might be safe to pick on at this forum.
