SIGMA 50mm F1.4 HSM - want your opinions

I'm currently searching for an 50mm f1.4 lens, this new sigma look good but I would have some opinions, especially on K mount. I've read the reviews but user's feedback would be great. I'm not interested in Pentax DA 55, I want it to cover 35mm format as well. The other option I have is the FA 50, still not decided.

Any clue ?

Hi,

I have the FA 50 and have considered the Sigma too. I'll keep my Pentax because of it's light weight, it's smaller and cheaper. And the difference with he Sigma is quite marginal imo.

The FA 50 is soft at f1.4 but already quite a lot better at f2.0

Considering all the above, I would vote for the FA version.

Buy sigma 50mm. It,s super sharp and has very nice bokeh. Also its build like a tank! i love it, and i bet you will too

Here´s some samples:

ps: dpreview rated sigma as a "classleading" quality.

I've had mine for a month, and it's barely been off my K20D in that time.
My favourite lens at the moment, although it is my only prime (so far).
The dpreview of the lens seems fairly accurate.

Just a quick addition to my previous post: I'm sure the Sigma is a very good lens. But the question is not whether a fast fifty is a good lens. Imo any fast fifty is a great addition to a dlsr.
As to the difference between the Pentax and the Sigma, I have come to the conclusion that the Sigma offers not that much more than my FA 50. It looks to be sharper wide open, but the other factors such as price, size and weight are in favour of the Pentax.

thanks theses shots are excellents! the bokeh is very nice.

any of you having specifics problems with FF/BF with this lens ? I read some peoples in others mount having such issues, altough, it's more prone to focusing errors due to thin DOF.

No problems that I can readily identify. The narrow DOF does make focusing critical when shot wide open, but that's true for any lens of this type. And one of the payoffs for dragging around this heavy hunk of glass is in the little or no vignetting at wide apertures.

And the bokeh is gorgeous
