My Vivitar 70-210mm series 1 (Kiron) zoom lens is really hard to focus or zoom correctly because the zoom/focus ring is quite sticky while sliding it back and forth. Any suggestions on making the focus/zoom ring slide smoothly?

I have the same problem with my Vivitar Series 1 28-105... Initially, I thought the lens was terribly soft. Well, it is soft, but not terribly so, and it gives so nice colors that I want to keep it. Difficult to use in macro mode--what I do is to focus the best I can and shoot 3-4 frames in high speed burst mode. Anyway, it's not a lens for narrow DOF.
