Looking for input, opinions, recommendations, and links!

Hello all...I'm the owner of a used (but in great shape) *ist DS that came with the 18 to 55mm lens. I also have an older bayonet mount 70-300mm which works on my digital.

Now I'm looking for something in between like a 135mm lens. I'm on a budget and can't afford big$$ and would like to solicit input, opinions, recommendations and links!

Do I go for the M42 mount and pick up a screw mount lens? What brand is good; Tamaron, Quantaray, etc?

Any and all help is appreciated!

Many thanks!

I'm not sure in what sense you mean "in between" here - your 70-300 already covers the 135mm focal length. The only "in between" you are missing are the focal lengths between 50 and 70. Depending on what you think you need those focal lengths for, you could either get by with a very cheap 28-80 or any brand or a more expensive Tamron 28-75/2.8 if having f/2.8 is import (eg, portraits or low light use).

Now, if you really do mean you want another 135mm even though you already have one, I'd guess the reason would be so that it was smaller & lighter and/or "faster" (larger maximum aperture. In which case, the standard answer on both counts is the M135/3.5, easily found for $50 and a fine lens. If you don't mind spending more and/or carrying a heavier lens to gain another half stop, there are any number of good 135/2.8's too. I don't know that I usually hear about Tamron or Quantary lenses at this focal length, though - most just older Pentax models (SMC or screwmount Takumars in particular) and no-name brands.

Hi Marc, I appreciate your input. The 70-300mm is a beast and heavy and I was looking for a 135mm that I could basically leave on the camera for most of my shots.

I will give a look for the M135/3.5 or as you pointed out the 135/2.8

Thanks again!
