Takumar 300/4 vs K400/5.6 anybody compared?

Well title really says it all.
Has anybody compared Takumar 300/4 (or K generation 300/4 which I believe is opticaly the same) with K400/5.6 (or it's takumar predecessor)?
I have 400 but I've seen the tak for decent price and good condition and that extra stop is tempting.

PS: do M42 lenses w adapter work with K bayonet (both ends) TCs?

Hey Peter,

I had a Super Tak 300 and now have an SMC Tak 400. Have not shot enough with the 400 yet to conclude but here are a few thoughts. The 300 is much smaller and carried well in my camera bags the 400 will not. I find the 400 more difficult to nail the focus on so far. The extra stop on the 300 was difficult to part with but the extra reach on the 400 may be worth the trade. Tough call for me so far on which one I like more. Are you considering just having one or adding the 300?

Hi Bill,
thnks for brief comparison. I'd like to add 300 but I'm sure I'd have to sell 400 to get the cash. Nailing the focus is exactly what botheres me w 400. I don't have split screen and I'm bit reluctant to invest into one, since the lens is 5.6
Having said that 400 gives me some fine images but I often find myself pushing ISO bit more I'd like to (simply because I have to go stop down (f8) to get the sharpness and avoid CAs and shooting 400 on f8 is no fun)
