A full on lens - Sigma 17-70 2.8 DC

Three shots from the Sigma 17-70 F2.8 DC, first is a full zoom at 70mm Macro with a 100% crop inset, second shot is at full wide 17mm shot through a glass roof.

First shot with the new 17-70 lens, of a garden orb spider. Shot from around 3" (7cm), Macro seems crisp and bright. Shot was F16 - 70mm - 180/sec - ISO 200 - Spot Metering on K10D.

Q1, At 323 metres (1,059 feet), it is the world's tallest all-residential building, when measured to the top of its spire. This shot was from under a laminated safety glass verandah in the tower courtyard, hence the colour cast. F8 - 1/350 - ISO 100.

The coffee drinker - (babyccino sans coffee) F4 - 1/160 - 53mm with onboard flash.

IMO this lens is a winner, for the price the quality is equal to any other lens I have tried.

I just love this lens. As far bang for buck goes, nothing beats it.

My camera shop didn't have one, so they are getting one in for me to try, with no obligation to buy it. Cool. I think I'll probably get it though.

Sounds like a camera shop to support, you will be really happy with it I am sure, it is my 'walk around' lens now, I can see no reason to purchase the obligatory 'primes' when you have a lens this good..

Shot this one as the sun was setting in Broadbeach, Gold Coast.

Why oh why is this lens reportedly better than the 18-50 sigma that's meant to be EX ie. premium lens range...?

Maybe they got it right and labelled it without the EX? All I know is that it works, and makes the K10D sing!

you mean the Sigma 2.8-4.5/18-70 - didn't you?
Never heard of a pure 2.8-version....

Not sure who you were asking here Pleo, the model of lens being discussed in this thread is a Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5 DC Macro.

And the one Christian mentioned is the Sigma 18-50 f2.8 EX, which I was also considering, but it's shorter long end, and price count against it.
