Tair 11-A

I had a 10% off coupon on fleabay, and with the MS Live cashback, I decided to pick up a Tair 11-A. It seems like such a cool collectible. I've never shot with any M42 lenses on my K20D--should I go for the Pentax brand adapter? Anyone here have any experience with this lens, too?

You already got it? Then you're in for a treat :-) Best 135mm I have (I have a Takumar 135/3.5, Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 135/3.5, Pentacon 135/2.8, Accura/Sigma 135/2.8, and the Tair).

Some samples:

Great shots! The photo of the little boy is cool--what a character. The bokeh on the fence and it the last photo is wild. Now I'm even more excited to get mine!

Mine's on its way, but it's coming from Russia, so it might take a while. :/

you should always go for the genuine adapter. its just cheap insurance. plus the genuine adapter can easily be taken off without a tool.

Good advice, seamuis.

Does anyone know if the geuine adapter can be purchased for a little less than from the Pentax Webstore?

unless you get lucky on the bay. no. not likely. any retailer B&H, adorama, etc. that may have it will charge equal to or more than pentax. I would say, watch ebay and put a wanted ad in the forum marketplace for one.

Only if you willing to wait and hunt the ebay... The pentax store is about right... expecially if they have it in stock!

I love my Tair... My most used lens the last month...

My first test shot thread with it...

And a couple of quick indoor schnaportraits of the Menace

And my lens change pic of my M50 macro - taken with the Tair...

Fixed my photo links, thanks to Igilligan, who let me know there was some pixelation going on (bad usage of the IMGWIDE tag by me) :-)

Regarding M42 adapters, believe me I searched for one left and right for about a month before I just bought it from Pentax. If you get into a bidding battle on the 'Bay, you might end up paying more for one used :-D $36 is really not that bad, considering how much you could get out of it --- the world of M42 lenses is vast.

I'd been checking on fleabay, and had trouble finding the Pentax brand adapter. B&H and Adorama only carry an off-brand version, so I just placed my order on the Pentax webstore.

Very nice work, Igilligan. You know, you're not doing anything to make my wait for the lens any easier!

in the long run you wont regret it. in fact you will likely be happy you didn't wait around trying to find a deal.

I absolutely agree

Seamus is right on... The pentax adaptor is so much better than the third party ones... and waiting to find one in our marketplace or ebay can be frustrating.

The original is the ticket... Congrats again on the Tair. I hope you have as much fun with yours as I have had with mine.

My Tair 11-A just arrived! Man, those aperture blades are beautiful! I can't wait to try it out later--I'll post photos.

Damn. If I hadn't bought the K135/2.5 today I would be so tempted. But I think I need to shoot a bit with this new baby first.
