It could be that the retailers are putting on a monster markup and that CRK is just protecting its market by reducing the temptation to buy overseas. Maybe.
Australian retailers CANNOT compete on many high ticket lenses with bhphoto or Adorama prices, not even near to it...

One lens ive seen priced oddly is the DA70mm ltd. For some reason in all the camera stores here in adelaide its priced between $525 and $560. A fair bit cheaper than getting it from overseas or online stores. No idea why but its the lens im saving up for now =D

Which is still some 50% more than used on this marketplace. THe gap between new and used prices is widening.

Same is true in the European "Eurozone", however the UK is quite a bit cheaper due to current exchange rates.... not comparable to the US however...

you need to look at the distribution chain.

In many markets, pentax m,ay not large enough, or feels they do not need to deal directly with each country's operations, and as a result, they may, for example (please note this is not necessairly the case but only being used for an example), have Pentax Canada receive all the goods through Pentax USA. Since pentax USA maked a profit on the lenses, it may be that it is forcing the price higher in canada than it needs to be, just because of another step in the food chain.

I know this happens with some third party lenses as well.
