77 has pixie dust and sublime build quality and feel.

If you pixel peep, you can save a few bucks and buy the 70. If you want to show your images and are looking for magic, the 77 is the one. Not to say you can't make great images with the 70...you can. But spec sheets, machine tests, and other nonsense don't make pictures.

I have all three FAs. The 31 is on the K20d body the most, but the 77 is the best of the lot imho.

I think that the Full frame compatibility shouldn't be a factor (considering the huge price gap). I suggest go for the 70mm and spend the extra money on another lens!

Price gap = $164 USD...

Full frame compatibility is not really much of a factor unless you shoot film as well as digital. If I remember correctly, the OP (lawsonstone) has a fair number of film cameras.
