A wr 17-70?

i see many people talking about it.but is it true? will pentax release a WR version for the 17-70 any time soon?

if this is true it might be instead of buying the DA*16-50...

thanks

I personally do not see it happening. 17-70 is too close to 16-50. If sometime in the future they decide to discontinue the 16-50, then I could see a 17-70 as a replacement, but not now.

I'd be absolutely tickled if either Pentax or Sigma would start producing a WR version of the 17-70. At least for Pentax, it is a bit strange that they've now got wide-short tele WR lenses at the low end (DA18-55) and the high end (DA*16-50) of the price spectrum, but nothing in the middle price range (DA17-70).

In the meantime, I'll just keep shooting away with the Sigma 17-70.

I do not see it happening in the near future either. However it would make the best travel zoom ever! (IMO)

would be nice one to have... keep it f4 who cares for faster when we have good primes but the WR 17-70/4 would really be nice trawell zoom to have if they'd keep the price tag reasonable...

I'm tipping a WR travel zoom with high IQ would make for a lot of happy campers! A WR super zoom would also appeal to many people to. It will be interesting to see if they update existing designs or introduce new designs (like a 16.5-135 like tokina announced). We will just have to wait and see.

A rebadged Tokina 16.5-135 would be even better, especially if I can get up close with it.

I don't think it'll happen... the 17-70 is a pretty recent offering. Imagine how much of a bust all those non-WR units (like mine!) will be if Pentax skips over to the WR version of it soon.

I believe Pentax will make all their DSLR's and lenses weather sealed with time.....

There was a time when I was waiting for the 17-70 to come out but then I seem to recall some delays and then I ended up with 16-50. While I was waiting on the 17-70 I was under the impression that it was always supposed to be weather resistant. I wonder what happened. Either I was always wrong about the intention of Pentax to make this a WR lens or they changed their mind at some point along the way...
