Beyond the DA*50-135

Hello

I just received an email from Sigma photo saying they have no intentions of making the 120-300mm F/2.8 for Pentax mount.

Whats the chances of Pentax make such a lens or even a 135-300mm F/2.8?

It would compliment the 16-50 and 50-135 very well and not cannibalize the sale of the 60-250 F/4 which I am looking at getting.

Cheers

To be honest i think this is a good thing ha, as it means that it's one less thing for me to wish i had enough money for

But I appreciate your problem, i can't see Pentax making something like that anytime soon though, because of the lack of people who a) would be able to afford one and b) would use one that often, as the majority of people who use these lenses are professional sports photographers, who generally go after the high fps of the canikons..

Unfortunately i don't think there is a big enough market of cashed up, bird loving pentaxians to warrant such a lens from Pentax. It's a different story for Sigma though, who already have the lens constructed.

Thank's for your reply.

It's a shame really as N & C don't have such a lens unless you but Sigma.
Might have made some more people look over the Pentax fence with the imminent release of the K7.

Cheers

Pentax could actually license the 120-300 from sigma and make it in our mount, but won't as there isn't the demand to warrant a $3000 lens in the class. Personally I would rather a good 100-300 F4 or similar.

Agree, plus I assume Sigma lens is for full frame, and F2.8 for FF would make it very heavy and big. It's better if Pentax can design a DA* for this focus range.

When I have 70-200mm F4 (Canon mount), I found most photos I took is actually at the 200mm end.
