or the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro - which is well known for the quality of it's bokeh.
I love my Tammy ... there's no way in hell I will get rid of it ... long portraiture shooting is soo much fun with it ... the IQ is always excellent with it.

Fantastic examples everyone.
Now the OP has to make a choice from all these lenses...
Good luck.

So which is better?

Sigma MACRO 105mm F2.8 EX DG (AF), Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro, or Pentax 100mm f/2.8 macro - FA or DFA?

ALSO - How hard is it to switch from Macro to Portraits, or to focus on these?

There's really a much of a muchness ... except field of view with the different focal lengths.
Both are sharp lenses for macro work .... and with nice bokeh ... it's a hard decision.

I chose Tamron due to the fact I kept seeing some amazing work from it ... I just didn't see all that many Pentax 100mm examples around to swasy my decision at the time.

I personally wouldn't buy any AF lens without quick shift, so the Pentax would win for me if I wanted that focal length for portraits. I already have a (non-macro) 100 that I love - but it's too long for "most" portrait use for me. So I supplemented it with a DA70. Either of them - or my 135 - combined with a Raynox 150 can serve as my macro lens, but then, I don't do enough macro shooting to be bothered by not having a "real" macro lens.

Posts: 41 suggests that the tamron 90mm (which I own) is slightly better than the d-fa 100mm.
I really like the Tamron when doing macro/portrait, the only downsides are the weird mf/af clutch and the AF which is useless at macro distance and slow and noisy at normal distances, also because I forget to switch the aforementioned af/mf clutch a lot.

You guys are missing the spot

The ultimate portrait + macro combo is a Bokina 90mm 2.5 + extender.

If not for FA77 in my bag I would probably get the beforementioned lens for both macro and portraiture.

I can recommend the Sigma 70mm/2,8 macro, its just super lens! I had one of those, but i was fool and exchanced that away
but next month im gonna buy NEW ONE to my new K-7

It has best reviews of macro lenses i have seen this far, and 70mm is long enough for my shooting, great for everything but someone would like longer for insects (not me). Third-Party Pentax Lens Review Database - 70mm F2.8 EX DG (AF Lens)
