Going to NY for the 4th of July....

Can I survive the whole trip with just my DA35LTD as my girlfriend wishes? Or should I fight for a bigger kit? I will be staying in Manhattan doing the very touristy things.

Fight for a bigger kit. I think you're gonna need something wider for the trip.

well you could just take the 35 with you and just have to make a trip and buy the 15 while you are there because you need something wider

Ever listen to the NPR show Car Talk? People call in with car questions, but sometimes the question is really a relationship question. I think this is really a relationship question.

I have been happy walking around Washington with just the FA35, so I think it can be done. You maybe miss a shot here and there, but pick up more shots when you start to see in the range of your lens and know that focal length is instantly ready.

Well, if it's not working for you, you can always hop into B&H and check out what the mothership has on hand.

Yeah, my ORIGINAL plan was to go in there and buy the DA15LTD and DA70LTD, but that is not looking possible... I may be able to do one, but not both.

Buddha, I would definitely push for a bigger kit. I personally think you will need both longer and wider. I don't know what you have planned but I would seriously suggest a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. It's a pleasant walk above the traffic and excellent views of the Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines, Statue of Liberty, East River and New York harbor etc. It's a very touristy thing to do but a lot of us Knickerbockers like it too. And by all means go visit B&H if you can. The place is huge, a bit off the beaten track but if you can talk the GF into visiting the Javits center it isn't far away. I personally think I get better service at Adorama, but B&H is definitely a LOT more impressive.

Well I have the Pentax sling bag, I think I can get the DA35LTD as my daily walk around the city lens and the DA*200mm as the touristy lens from the boat rides and what not. If I take the big bag, I can get my whole kit in there but I don't wanna carry that bulk. The DA*16-50mm and the DA*200mm is an interesting combination.... that will fit in the sling with the DA35LTD on the body. I think that is a winner my good Watson!!

Ideally, you'd roll with the 16-50 and pick up the DA70. If the zoom isn't an option, I'd definitely pick up the DA15 to go with the DA35. The 70 is a good lens but you will probably feel the need to go wider.

16-50 + 35 + 200 sounds like a winner.

Are you taking NY purchases into consideration?

If you were getting the 15 and bringing the 35 you could probably leave the 16-50 at home. (and then maybe you could do 15, 35 and 50-135).

The 15 would be killer in New York! Distortion on the 16-50 gets pretty obvious below 20mm, so the 15 would add more to your existing kit.

I think you've wanted the 70 for some time, but you have that focal length covered very very well by the 50-135.

If you're not sure about getting anything right now, the 16-50, 35, 200 would rock. Enjoy!

I would definitely suggest bringing the 16-50 along. I think you'd feel a bit limited (no pun intended) with just the DA 35.

Not that it is all that relevant, but I just brought my son into the City last weekend to take him to the Museum of Natural History, and I brought only my Tamron 17-50, which turned out to be the perfect lens for the museum. Zoom for flexibility, wide enough for great shots of the dinosaurs and other attractions, long enough to get some longer shots, and fast enough to get some nice low-light shots without the flash. I debated bringing just my DA 40 for its great portability, but that would have given me far fewer options in practice.

Inside or out, your 16-50 will come in handy.

Echoes Jay on this one. Good choices all around.
