Sigma 100- 300 f4: opinions and smples please

Hi everybody,
I did check out this lens in reviews section but would love to gather more info.
After googling, general consensus between Pentax & Nikon folks seems to be positive.
But I'd still love to hear more, and how well does it pair with TCs.
Any info, opinions, experiences and samples would help.

Thank you,
BR

Peter

Did you happen to mean Sigma 100-300mm f/4? I cannot seem to find any info on a 100-400mm.

I corrected it now

the sigma 100-300 f/4 EX DG a first rate optic. my only complaint about it is it's vulnerability to flare. but in terms of resolution it is as good as a prime lens in decent light. the built in IS with Pentax cameras is fantastic, I have gotten sharp images even at 1/8th of a second @ 200mm in some cases.

here is an example of what I use it for...the bokeh isn't too bad for a zoom...

really not vulnerable to flare with the hood on unless you're pointing almost into the sun... i never use it with the hood off or for that matter any of my lenses unless i have a need to take the hood off... but yes it is up to par with 300mm F4 primes

I have had to deal with flare even with the hood attached, so using a hood alone isn't a magic bullet solution.

If you'll excuse the subject matter, here is an example of the kind of flare you will have to deal with from the sigma 100-300 f/4...

Cant say I've experienced any of those kind of flare issues you point out.

This lens is absolutely superb in all respects. Sharp, great colour, quick focusing and great build.

Works great with the Sigma 1.4 tc also:

and for those wondering, i'm using the current DG version of the Sigma 100-300 f/4 - the lens is excellent in all areas of performance, but when it comes to flare I have uncoated lenses that could probably beat it...

I really love mine and have never really experienced any flare issues. Very versitile.

I believe this first one I was using the Tamron 1.4X TC.

This was a hard shot to get and was manual so I don't think I hit it dead on but....

AF is pretty darn fast also. Possible my favorite lens.
