The more relevant question is how many 50mm lenses can one use at any one time... ans: 1
I like AF and want the ability to use every auto-exposure mode... so I have little sentimentality over the non-A lenses 50mm lenses where exposure is iffy with the current DSLR bodies.

I've always been a 50mm lens junkie, though I don't bother with the screw mount lenses.
I have at least one sample of every 40mm-55mm Pentax K-mount lens except for the K50/1.2, as well as the Nokton 58mm.

Current lineup - will only be selling one...

A 50 1.7

F 50 1.7

FA 50 1.7

Takumar 50 1.4

Takumar 55 f/2

Helios 44-M-4 58 f/2

Cosina 55 f/1.2

Oh, and...
Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D

(that A 50 1.7 shot was actually from the traveling nifty fifty, but I also have my own copy)

Not if you have more than 1 camera body...

If you had those lenses, which would you keep and why?
Depending on how they are corrected for spherical aberration and the shape of the aperture, the bokeh may look different in different situations. So you might as well collect them all.

Hey Steve, I just bought the Rikenon XR 50mm f2 and a Vivitar/Komine 135/2.8. I blame you!
Your forum alias says it all!

You are going to enjoy both lenses.

I have 0 at the moment. I've have a few in the past but they are long gone. I am looking for something in that range but it will likely be a 43mm or 55mm instead of a 50.

I can cover 50mm in a few dfferent ways with my present kit. Obviously only one is a prime 50, but I don't really see a need to keep more than one of those.

FA50/1.4
DA*16-50/28
DA*50-135/2.8

Check this out!

I currently have NO 50mm primes but when I shot Pentax I had the FA f/1.4 and the SMC-A f/1.7.

I got a chance to shoot with Sean's SMC-A f/1.2 once, that's a sweet lens

Hear hear, but isn't it one of the higher stages of lensownership ? Now you can compare different samples of the very same lens, producing scientific evidence .-)

I'd keep the F-series lens (only from hearsay, don't have it). AF-performance should be quite good afair.

You wanted to know how many you should have. Boils down as to how many different attributes you personally need and which lenses comprise those different attributes the most in one lens (or two or three). The great thing is to find that one lens that does it all for you. Could be that it's that F-series and you're already there.

Best of 3D and bokeh (skipping: flare, macro): Cron R 2/50 1st version on K100D

Best, Georg (the other)

I would say no limit should be put for 50mms. For time being I have three

* SMCP A 50/1.7 (The best and most used lens by me)
* Macro Takumar 50/4
* Industar pancake 50/3.5

Open for more 50mm donations :-)
