Ahh...finally a nice compact macro lens

Just picked up a 2x teleconverter for my old Tamron 90/2.5 macro so that it will get 1:1 magnification. At least I can rest assured that any intruders into my home will be dealt with swiftly and effectively!

Yikes, that looks heavy! How much does that sucker weigh? You're going to need the SR!

On a side note, I've read conflicting things regarding SR and macro shooting. Does SR help at macro range?

Not at high magnification. Moving the camera closer or farther away by even a fraction of an inch has a noticable effect on your focus plane, so SR isn't going to help with that. And you really need a small aperture for decent depth of field at high magnification (f16 to f22), creating slow shutter speeds. In the shade, you often have exposure times of 1 second or greater. SR isn't going to help with shutter speeds that slow. Flash can help reduce the blur from the slow shutter speed, but it doesn't help with the focus loss from hand shake. So when you're dealing with high magnification you're going to need a tripod for best results.
