best wide angle around $400?

I need a new wide angle lens...the old 18-55 kits lens just really isn't sufficient as a solution

Can anyone recommend a good wide angle (preferrably not a prime, just because I like to have a little flexibility, even though I am a fond adherent to the "move your feet" school)

something in the 10-20ish range? Is there anything in that range in the general $350-450 price point?

If so, is there a standout? (I have a k20d and k100d, if it matters)

You've sort of answered your own question.....

The Sigma 10-20mm, the Pentax 12-24 and the the Tamron 10-24 meet the focal length needs.

But when you put in price, the Sigma is $479 from B&H or Adorama, the Pentax is $699 from B&H. The Tamron is on Adorama for $499 the Sigma comes out closest to your needs.

I've got the Sigma and love it - and the reviews suggest its the best value lens in this range anyway. The Pentax 12-24 is supposed to be better, but out of your price range. DPreview and Photozone have reviews of all 3 as well. The DPreview one lets you compare CA/sharpness between lenses too.

Good luck!

Yes, and at 17mm it's almost not a fisheye but still wide.
