I concur, sell it to me for cost + S&H so you never have to see it again.

just in case someone here is still interested in getting a fast 50, there is one on sale right now at the marketplace. however, it's a K 1.2 . but regardless of that, it's still a 50 1.2. any takers?

A 50mm f1.2 is a good lens but manual focusing does make it less practical in a lot of situations.

You can find the gallery by selecting the A 50mm f1.2 option here

Hey guys,

the latest news about me (not) buying the lens:

saturday i visited the dealer (remember, he cold via mail, that it is in very good condition, although 24 years old). i could test the lens 30 minutes.

i changed the aperture ring to A and it worked from the first second after i had chosen the focal length. from just looking at the lens i could see a few scratches on the metal, but the glass is ok. after that i unscrewed the lens, set the aperture to 1,2 and looked through.
i saw a few dark dots inside. i think inside-coating.

after telling the dealer, that i can see stuff inside, he made an excusion and lowered the price to 300USD. i said i want to test it this week and i gonna decide after. so now i have it with me.

Unfortunately i am not an used lens expert and i ask for your help. can you please tell me some test shoots-situation to check the lens?

Is the stuff inside simply tiny specks of dust or something more sinister?

If it's just dust, it's understandable and you should just shoot some images to see if it comes up.

If it's something else don't bother shooting test images, try and get some shots of whatever is inside and post them up.

here are some sample shots of the lens.
all without tripod.
Picasa-Webalben - pentax.smc.a.50mm... - Pentax SMC-A ...

the last two pictures show the stuff which is inside. is it bad?

That kind of looks like flecks of the flat black paint used on the interior surfaces. If you could get to it, it would probably blow right off. At that price, a professional cleaning would still leave you with a good deal.

that black material is a defect. the lens is really ugly. return it back and gave us the contact number of the shop.

It might not even have any effect. Little flecks inside a lens or scratches on the surface sometimes do nothing bad to IQ.

I don't have much experience in this, but the main things to look out for are the spiderweb traceries of fungus or the discolouration that comes from separating elements. Also, oil on the blades.
