Really struggling with zoom choice...

Hello all - Long time user of Olympus products, although I did have a DL body and 40mm F2.8 pancake a few years back. I make some money from photography (although not my main source of income) - interior/real estate, product, and landscape.

In any event, I just purchased a refurb K200D, grip, and Sigma 10-20mm over the weekend. I now can't decide on what zoom I want to start with. I see myself purchasing the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 in the near future, but want to grab something else in between the 10-20 and the 70-200 now.

Been back and forth between the 18-50mm F2.8 Macro, 24-60mm F2.8, 28-70mm F2.8, 17-70 F2.8-4.5 Macro, and the Pentax 16-45 F4.

My biggest problem with the 18-50mm is the short tele, so that almost eliminates the Pentax from the get go. I have actually used the 18-50 on 4/3rds and found it to be a great lens. The 24-60mm really interests me, but the cheapest (and only) place I can find it is at sigma4less for $299. I don't like that they are not an authorized dealer and Sigma will not honor the 4 year warranty.

The next choice would be the 28-70, but that is a little long on the short end. The 24-70 starts to really push my budget. I'd like to keep this lens under $400. 17-70 could be an option, but I really want a constant aperture lens and the EX build (no particular reason other than 'because I do!').

I guess you could say I want to be economical now and save the DA* lenses for a later date when the funds are more available.

Which brings me right back to the 18-50mm EX. I am leaning towards this lens for the Macro ability - I don't need 1:1 for my photography. I am also considering the Sigma APO 1.4 teleconverter (not now, but soon), so that could help extend the 50mm tele end, as well as make the 70-200 close to 300mm @ F4. While I have read endless reviews of the lenses in question, I haven't looked into the 1.4 tc yet.

Any thoughts on my ramblings? Just to note, while I read that is highly regarded, I really haven't given much consideration to the Tamron 28-75 F2.8 mainly because I do tend to like consistency with my lenses.

Thank you - if you made it this far!

Joe
