Pentax evidently showed a 300mm f2 prototype in the late '70s, but it never made it to the production line. Even among prototypes this one has to be very rare.

I gleaned this trivia from a link to Nikon's 300mm f2.

Nikon F 300/2

Cheers

If you can get your hands on one, buy it, you will not regret it.

What about the 35mm/1.4? Only five sold, per Bojidar's site.

I would LOVE one. Even if it weren't rare.
The 35mm f1.4 and The K 8.4mm f2.8 fish eye may be the 2 rarest non-prototype lenses Asahi made in either m42 or k mount.

I seen the FA 200mm * F4 ED 1:1 macro on ebay for $3,400 not long ago. The A 200mm * F4 ED 1:1 macro is also selling for big bucks.

I like my FA* 200/4 macro...

That's one I would be very hard pressed to give up, even if I switched systems (and that's not likely - perhaps dual systems, but that's it).

There is a rather long thread about that here. The buyer of the FA* 200mm Macro had bought an A* 200mm Macro approximately a month earlier in, if I remember correctly, the $2K USD range. Wish I could "scratch every itch".

Apparently some were made beyond prototypes though according to Dimitrov:

For a long time it was thought that this lens existed only as a prototype, but in early 2004 one lens was offered for auction at Yahoo Japan. The lens appears to be essentially identical to the prototype "smc PENTAX BIRDS-EYE 1:2.8 8.4 mm", but it carries the name "smc PENTAX FISH-EYE 1:2.8 8.4 mm".
Either way, that makes it darned rare.

Lets see, you have the Kenko auto extension tubes with proper contacts and the FA 200 macro . . . what is your address?

Hey, I'm not even going to show you images with the fully stacked extension tube set....

I live in NW Arkanas - right near the Ozark National Forest...

I bought a FA*400/5,6 from a guy some years ago and I asked him if he got more lenses he would sell. Well, he had this 200mm macro lens. So I got the FA*200/4 in like new condition for $800 and he throw in a FA*24/2 as his last Pentax lens. Two good lenses for $800 and it was a really, really nice day :-) Almost forgot - I paid $600 for the FA*400/5,6 which was also in new condition.

Loads. These were made over a app. 30 year period, first in M42 and then in K-mount and then there was the Pentax 67adapter-version. I bet there are several thousands out there. But that doesn't make it a less nice lens.

I'm surprised so many, they could not have been very cheap for the time.

Now I just need to find the OEM tripod...
