DA* 50-135mm Focus ring

I just got my DA* 50-135mm from the mail today and I was testing it out just now. I noticed how the manual focus ring felt "loose". Is this normal?

*edit*
When I turn the focus ring and try to focus, i have to turn the ring just a little tiny bit before anything changes on the distance window.

*edit* Also noticed it only happens when I change directions. It is very slight but still noticeable and I'm afraid my lens is defective

*update*
Everything else worked perfectly fine, but the MF still bothers me just a little. I have to twist an extra 1mm or less (in the opposite direction) to get the distance scale to change.

The lens has the "quick shift" focus system. What you are experiencing is probably the clutch mechanism releasing the focus ring. If you can focus fine with it I wouldnt worry about it.

Just to make sure, can anyone else confirm that this happens to their lens as well?
Thanks

Sounds pretty loose. I don't have my 50-135 with me right now, but my 16-50 only has about .25mm play (estimated not measured)before the inner ring (in the window) starts to move.

I guess it is about a mm or slightly less. I tested it outside and I barely even noticed while MF so it isn't a big deal, but I want to know if anyone else has had this "problem".

Wait so does this happen to your 50-135mm too?

Mine does it too. I don't know how much the travel is, slight but noticeable.

I noticed it when I first received mine 8 months ago and it hasn't bothered me. It hasn't changed since, the amount of "wiggle" I mean.

Is it possible to get this fixed via store? The focus ring feels pretty loose and its noticeable (to me anyways, my dad didn't even notice... ). And can anyone explain to me how Amazon's warranty works?

I just got mine out to see if I could come up with what you mention.
No, I am afraid I find no movement in the focus ring at all.
If there is, and I repeat IF, it would be fractions of a millimeter.
Hope this helps.

I just checked my 50-135.
And I noticed that yes there is something about < 1mm movement before the focus scale starting to move when you move it to the other direction.
But I don't feel it as loose though. I'm not sure what you mean with being loose.
My focus ring feels really tight.

Amazon should be able to send you a replacement or a full refund. Their return policy is great.
