Specs of brown something inside lens

I just bought a 70-300mm APO Sigma, but I see some brown specks inside the lens. It looks like a piece or pieces of tobacco. It looks like it's just under the top glass. Is there a way to remove the ring holding this glass in so I can clean it?

Never mind. Looks like it was a reflection of light.........sighs......and rolleyes.

The proper technical term for those brown specks is "goobers".

Photolady, Which Indian River are you near? I'm a few blocks from the Indian River Lagoon in FL and just had an interesting experience with brown specks. They were all over the place inside the film chamber of a small camera I bought at a thrift store. Some in the viewfinder too. The little brown specks had legs! I got further inside the camera and it was full of them. All deceased, fortunately. One of the hazards of living in Florida, I guess. All the little buggers have been cleaned out and the camera is happily making pictures.

My Indian River is also called The Intracoastal Waterway. Between land and the Atlantic Ocean (if I told you exactly where, I'd have to change my location status).

But as for the brown specs, it wasn't. There was some light filtration going on and I couldn't see that until I took the lens close to some natural light, ie, the sun coming through a window.

I'm glad to hear you got your camera clean of bugs.
