I thought about it, but I liked the idea of saving $1885.

You mean after reading all this info you didn't opt for this 135mm:

Pentax-A* SMC 135/1.8 #5565363..Minty/Case..EX.Rare - eBay (item 390043103236 end time Aug-06-09 20:05:27 PDT)

Gosh, if the one from Japan for $1900+ has been sitting in ebay stores, unsold for a while, what makes this seller think they can get that???

I guess that Sears will save you some coin, though.

(Wish the 135/2.5 were a little less expensive...)
Agreed, though I wouldn't take for that heavy little thing.

Porst 135/2.8 price?

IMO Pentacon 135 is vastly overrated, had one, made some nice images, quite nice colors but the sharpness was terrible all over the aperture ring. Sold it and got a Porst 135/2.8 which is a great improvement compared to the Pentacon.
How much did you pay for your Porst 135/2.8? I got mine last week for $30 and it was in great condition. Glasses are pristine. I wonder whether that was a good bargain or not.

You can get a Takumar 135 F2.5 for £8 to10 on Ebay in the UK, would have thought simlar price in US. I got mine for £6 at a camera fair. Some have a caoting and others don,t. the coated ones are sharper. I have found it to be a realy good lense on both film and digital if used with care. You will be amazed that these lenses are pushing 35 years old.

Where in ebay.co.uk can you get 2.5/135mm Taks for that price?? Here's a search for Takumar 135mm.

Even the bids for the f3.5 models start from £15-20? and close at ~£35

There was at least 4 over the last 3 months. If you notice the ones you saw are either buy now or have had no bids on them becouse they have set the starting price too high. Just keep your eye on ebay.co.uk you will be amazed at some of the low prices for older lenses.

I know you can sometimes get lucky and find a bargain (I've found a couple myself), but usually the prices go higher. Like this SMC Takumar 2.5/135mm which went for £117.50

M42, F=2.8: Pentacon 135 MC Auto, Vivitar 135 (by Tokina) -- these are big & heavy

M42, F=2.5: S-M-C Takumar 135 (version 2 with 6 elements in 6 groups) -- big & heavy

I paid something like 38 USD so your deal is not bad at all, I think. I actually sold it after a little while and bought a bundle of K1000 with M50/2 M28/2.8 and M135/3,5 with some accessories for about 140 USD, prolly going to sell all of that and keep the M135. Still looking for opportunities to buy any other fine 135, though

That price sounds appropriate for the non-SMC Takumar Bayonet, but the price of a "real" M42 Takumar 135/2.5 would be $80 USD and up in my neck of the woods.
