Pentax market .... AGAIN :(

so last week I was about to get the 77 mm silver for $580.
faith's will and I found the 20mm that I was looking for for so lomg .

this week no more pro digital ... and Adorma selling the lens in black for $1400!!!!!!

now what? should I look for a used one? should I just buy a new one?

should I get the DA trio instead for the same price ?

Wow - Lens Prices Way Up

I just checked Amazon and the FA77 and FA31 are both over $1k! The used FA31s are selling for more than I paid new 6 months ago. I guess the price increase has finally come to pass.

Something fishy going on !!
I saw three silver 77s on Prodigital last week and the same three just yesterday. Suddenly none today.

If Prodigital has taken them off for a while to relist later at the new price, shall we egg bomb them?

Well I guess that's one way to drive your customer base further into the used lens market, 3rd party lenses - or drive them away to the darkside.

DA*200/2.8 jumped from ~$850 to $1200; that's a $350 increase. Sorry Hoya/Pentax but just because you have a sexy new camera body it doesn't follow that your existing lens lineup is suddenly worth 41% more than it was yesterday.

They did exactly that with their stock of DA*50-135mm. I was watching their listing along with a few others for my purchase to go along with the K-7, but as soon as their price shot up a few hundred bucks, promptly removed it from my watch list.

I knew the FA lims had to go up in price at some point. I already have the 31mm and don't need the 43mm, but I thought long and hard about the 77mm. Made the choice a couple months ago that I'm gonna let it pass.

When the news of the first pending Canadian price increase happened prodigital held firm on their prices until their inventory depleted. I got the 200/2.8 for $769 on March 31 and the price increase was set to happen on April 1.

Tough luck... Well consider it fortunate you found the older and elusive FA 20mm. Anyway it was already announced way back in Nov 2008 by Pentax Japan of price increases for the FA Limiteds effective Feb 2009. When current inventory is depleted, you can be sure the price at retail level will move up a lot. Also with the weak global economy, my guess is Pentax is gonna make smaller batches of lenses to keep inventory levels manageable, so prices will creep up. Anyway there are enough FA 77mm Limiteds floating around still.

Considering Adorama's prices went high for no apparent reason, then were corrected, it's *quite* possible that we werent' the only ones confused by this. The people selling those silver FA 77's might have just taken them off the shelves until they find out what they can really sell them for. Wouldn't you, if suddenly what you had might near double in retail value?

I dont know whats up with the prices at adorama but if you put the lens into your shopping cart the price drops back to normal. The 77mm goes from the listed price of $1049 to $699 once you put it in the cart and this is the case for most of the other lens as well

I really actually am starting to suspect someone's trying to start a panic as the K-7's hit the market. Or, maybe someone was misinformed about a real price rise applying in America.
