Have lenses, need body.

Hi! I have a Pentax PZ-1p with an SMC FA 28-80 Power Zoom and an FA 100-300 Zoom. I'm a pretty casual photographer, and broke. Can anyone recommend a reasonably-priced Pentax digital body that will accept these lenses?

Thanks!

Bart Brown

I would suggest a second hand K10D. The auto-zoom should work. It wont on all the Pentax DSLRs.

I had the same kit as you except my camera was the Z1. You have a good range covered with your lenses.

Thanks for the info, Peter. I have decided to sell a fairly rare Heuer Autavia chronograph and use the proceeds to buy a K10D body.

Thanks again!

If your z-1p is still fully working, it commands around 100$ in the market. I suggest if you do decide to sell it to buy an 18-55 kit lens to cover the lost range (28mm becomes 43mm FOV) from converting to APS-C digital.

I wouldn't sell it myself though. Having a second body to shoot fuji velvias (and a pz-1p to boot) is quite priceless.

Thanks for the info. I agree with you, if I'm only going to get $100.00 for the PZ-1p, it's well worth keeping for film. Ilford Pan F and Seagull paper are among my favorites. Y'know that black & white just captures the moment (great "16 Candles" scene!)

Thanks!

I'm just shooting my second B&W Roll now. Still getting the hang of it. I'll try the Ilford next!

If you're a wide angle guy you will at some point want the 18mm-28mm range, so take a look at your options in that range. I have a 28-75mm as my main lens but still keep my 18-55 kit for this purpose.

note that if you use any of the power zoom functions other than using the zoom ring, the K10D does not support them.

I am talking about Image size tracking, and zoom while the shutter is open, as well as the focal length recall mode. None of these are supported.

I second Andi's view of keeping the PZ-1p, and here is something else to consider, forget the 18-55 kit lens, and look for the FA-J 18-35 that was initially sold with the *ist and *istD as the kit lens.

the reason being it is a full frame lens, and will work just fine on the PZ-1p. 18mm is really wide on full frame, and I used my PZ-1 for all wide angle shots until I got a sigma 10-20mm lens.,

I've got a K2000 new in box for sale in the marketplace, if you'd like to check that out.
