Pentax da 40mm 2.8

i just received my new pentax 40mm 2.8 and mounted it on my k20d ...Does Anyone have a uv filter mounted on that lens? and if so does the mini lenshood/cap on that lens cause any problems with your photos mounted on the filter because is sets the hood slighty further out...its hard to type out what im trying to explain ...just ordered a good hoya uv filter for it and got to thinking about that lens hood/ cap thingy it comes with.

Nevermind ....lol

I just answered my own question i had an extra uv filter and just tried it ...even moving the hood further out does not cause any issues ...i was worried i would see the eges of the hood through the lens....i have so much stuff i didn't need to order another filter ...just ordered the same filter i already have just sitting here...
oh well

if you dont want to increase the profile of the lens (since its so sexy small already) and you feel it necessary to us a uv filter, you can get the 30.5mm hood and mount it on the inside of the lens hood/cap hole.

or even better just get an fa 43mm and use the 40mm hood on that and then use the smallest 49mm cap to keep it ridiculously thin.

It's one of my favorites. I don't know that I would want to put a UV filter in front of it. It would (possibly) take away from its incredible sharpness, and FWIW, it would increase its length by a considerable percentage.

I keep its original hood on all the time.
It is not one of the lenses I use an UV filter.
All of them, in fact, are lenses with big and unprotected front elements.
Do you really think that you need a filter?

Another good point. That hood makes it pretty hard to get to the glass with a foreign object.

Hood

The hood is awesome. I don't even put on the smallish lens cap when biking. I just throw my K-m + DA40 (without a cap) into a front hande-bars bag filled with bubble wrap (so it absorbs the vibrations) and that's it. Never had a problem with anything on the front element thanks to the lens hood. And it's also all I need with me to take nice pictures

On the other hand, the screw-on lens cap is just retarded

I use a Fujifim film cartridge cap instead:

Even though a clip-on Pentax cap (from my Pentax 110) looks really cool, I don't want to lose it:

it's pancake design is really tempting, honestly speaking. but I have to contend with my reliable FA 35 before looks. I may buy one in the near future just for the sake of having a cute and handy lens. I know that it's IQ is excellent, but so does the FA 35.

ok ok. I do admit the the size is convenient since I no longer have to remove the lens from the camera and have no difficulty in putting it inside the bag. unlik for some lenses that I have to remove during transport.

I didn't want to lose the cool little screw-on cap with the unique silkscreened 'Pentax' so I put it safely away and bought two 30mm snap-on lens caps for $5.00.
The lens is covered when not in use and the cap comes off much quicker than unscrewing the included cap.
The Fuji film canister lid works too but looks a bit gawdy and cheap for such a cute lens.

Since I got my DA40 my kit lens has seen very little use. I almost feel sorry for it, being brushed aside by a slimmer, sexier model.
