Has anyone used both the Sigma EX APO 1.4 TC and Pentax SMC 1.7x AF TC?

I just bought both used this week and plan to keep one after trying. I will be using either one with my Sigma 70-200 EX HSM. I realize the Sigma TC can be used with only certain Sigma lenses and the Pentax has an endless amount of uses with manual focus lenses.

Just curious if anyone can comment on using both? I'd like to draw my own conclusions, but would love to hear comments/tips from others. I am hoping the Sigma ends up being as good as I keep reading since it is significantly cheaper than the Pentax.

I was under the impression the Sigma 1.4x and 2x do not work correctly with the HSM versions of their lenses.

Anyway, I have both (plus the 2x Sigma) and although I would say the Pentax is slightly better the Sigma one is proper AF which makes more of a difference imo.

I seem to remember when the HSM lenses first came out someone saying that AF did not work properly with the teleconverters plus they had problems with the camera display. I may be wrong but I don't think so because SIgma have said they will be releasing new TC's sometime (when is anyones guess though).

How about the Tamron 1.4x converter?
I also have that one, it works fine with HSM/SDM and is pretty good quality.

I missed out on a Tamron recently here. I do recall there being one version of the Tamron that works perfectly with HSM.

You're right about the 70-200. I misread the chart on Sigmas site. The non HSM is supported! I guess that will be for sale.

I have a friend here in the UK that has just bought a non HSM version and he may be interested if you are willing to send it over here.

Decide when you receive it and let me know if you are and I will ask him.

Thanks for the offer to ask your friend. If doesn't work with my lens than I will have to sell it. I have no issue sending over the Atlantic to him.
