HD D-FA 28mm f/2.8 - an upgrade of the discontinued film FA 28. A compact and inexpensive wide-angle prime for FF to complement the FA 35 and FA 50, or a compact walkabout standard prime for APS-C

I have no idea why nobody makes good compact moderate telephoto primes these days. I mean, it's great that I can buy something like the Samyang 135mm f/2, but that is quite the beast (like telezooms) and for a rather compact camera like the K-50 I wouldn't mind something more the size and weight of a 135mm f/2.8 of old, maybe even the K 135 f/3.5. (I'm not even asking M 135 f/3.5 size, which is really petite.) Surely these days it should be possible to do better than these decades-old designs with their often lousy longi CA correction and other quirks? Superlatives may be better marketing-wise but in practice I would prefer something a little more.. practical.

This is a *very* old thread. Interestingly though, one of the first hypothetical lenses hoped for was a DA*11-16/2.8

It only took 8 years, but here we are

I would like to see a DFA 24mm f/2 Limited. Or even f/2.4 would still be good if having fine performance wide open. A faster 24mm lens having very good edge and corner performance is nearly impossible to find for any brand of camera. Such a lens would still have a wide angle for APS-C, as well as a wider angle for FF use, and a fast aperture for low light, etc.

I make do with my reasonably-priced Sigma 24mm f/1.8 EX DG, (actually reads out f/1.7) which just sort of gets by wide open and improves markedly even stopped down to f/2.2 or more. Sometimes I do need its speed. A Limited lens of better performance, build, etc. even if not quite as fast, would be a good thing.

Speaking of 24, Pentax is really lacking a good "workhorse" normal to slight wideangle for crop. Something 24-28ish, maybe the size of a DA35 2.4, with image quality that's hard to fault, reasonably affordable but still solid enough. The closest thing would probably be the FA 31 Limited now, but the appeal of a Limited costing over a grand tends to be rather, umm... limited.

A rebirth of the M120 F2.8 would be quite something. That lens was so small as to be ludicrous.

That I would certainly consider, especially if it was able to create starbursts.

Funny how that works isn't it. Ask and you shall receive and likely will end up just like me adding it to my bag!

It will be killer on the KP I reckon.

A symmetrical lens design UWA that is mirror up use only (in LV).
15mm f4.5, the size of which will look like a FA28/2.8 when mounted on the K1 (with part of the lens within the mirror box area).
Certainly a first for a DSLR (but Canon did have such a lens for film)
The lens contacts can transmit the ID to the camera to prevent use if not in mirror up mode.
