I know this is probably off topic, but have I mentioned lately how much I love my Takumars?

Lets get back on the topic of 55mm f1.8.

Here's the coolest of them all:

Just out of interest, is that the original lens cap?

All of my 60s/70s Takumars have either a "Asahi Pentax" or "Honeywell Pentax" lens cap. The only "Takumar" lens caps I have seen up to date have been the ones on the non-SMC 80s Takumar lenses.

Fl_Gulfer,
I have the K-mount version of that lens, and it's probably my favorite manual focus lens. It's on my Sigma more often than anything else these days.

I used it for all the pic's on this page.

I'm sure that you'll have the same amount of fun with yours.

I'll just pipe in and say if it wasn't for the Takumar 55mm 1.8 I wouldn't be where I am today. That radioactive little sucker has been with me since day one and I would never get rid of it....unless I found a better conditioned one

A toast then my friends....to Tamumar and the cheapest of them all....the 55mm 1.8!

The 55mm f1.8 is my very first Takumar lenses, I have since acquired the 28mm, 35mm and 105mm.

beautiful photo and a great choice of lenses ISO50.
I'd recommend to add a Takumar 50mm f1.4, my favorite lens

Kuuan, Thanks for the comment, the 50mm f1.4 is indeed a fine lens, for now I have enough of 50mm to play with, I will consider it if I can find a good deal on it.

I got carried away..the 50/1.4 is just a personal preference, the 55/1.8 is sharper

Not necessarily, or rather in some circumstances. Contemporary lens testers (photo magazines) gave the advice that while typically the slower lens is the sharper lens, with the Takumar 55/1.4 this isn't the case.
Here are some tests as well:
Normal 50s 1977 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Eight 50/1.4 lenses tested 1977 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

The 50/1.4 clearly is the sharper lens - however: the relative fall off at the edges is more pronounced than with the 55, and in real life that extra 10% in focal length results in a greater perceived resolution, from the same pov.

(these are tests of the K lenses, which AFAIK are the same as the last SMC Takumars.)
