f1.4 lens for pentax k200d

i'm looking to buy an f1.4 lens for my pentax k200d. i was looking on ebay and there seem to be quite a few older MF 50mm f1.4 lenses to choose from. can anyone give me some recommendations? i'm hoping to find something fairly inexpensive. thanks!

Well I have the FA 50mm f1.4. I think it's great. But I bought it before the prices got all jacked up.

I've read some really good things about both the "M 50mm f1.7" and the "F 50mm f1.7"

Check out some threads and reviews. I'm sure you can find sample shots from those lenses somewhere.

Some people have reservations about shooting wide open but both lenses from what I hear are very sharp at 1.7. You'll have some people who say they're a little soft at the edges but that's just nitpicking and true of all lenses at max aperture.

Just make sure if you get an old lens, you may need to buy an adapter ring as well.

My favorite is my Super-Takumar 50/1.4. I posted a Wanted thread here on the forums and got one for a very fair price, about 50usd . You'd need an adapter for the m42 Takumars though, but the adapter is quite cheap too.

well thank you all very much for your input. the FA 50mm 1.4 seems like a very nice lens, but it is a bit pricy, so maybe i'll wait on that one. but as it turns out i had some very good luck. i picked up an older SLR at a garage sale (for $1 i think) about a year ago, before i got my k200d. i was planning on selling it on ebay, but i never got around to it so it's just been sitting in a box since then. i just remembered about it today and when i looked at it again i realized that it was a pentax w/ (lo and behold) an F 50mm f1.7 lens! it seems to work well, so it looks like i won't have to purchase another lens just yet. but perhaps in the future i might invest in the FA f1.4. thanks again!

I picked up an M50 1.4 a couple of weeks ago for $65 and couldn't be happier with it. It could be called soft wide open, but even then it gives a nice quality. By f/4, it's razor sharp and still gives a nice, shallow, DOF. I'd certainly recommend it, especially if you could find one cheap. AF sure is nice to have if things are moving quickly, but if you can slow things down, shooting all manual with a thirty year old lens sure makes you feel some sense of accomplishment.

I captured this at 1/2000 and f/2, ISO 100 on a K20d

I just bought this lens:
smc pentax 1.4

I was also looking for a fast, cheap 50mm.
Read the reviews and found this one for about 50USD.
It's in excellent condition. Came with a filter, too.
Only got it yesterday, so will give it a go over the next few days.

I find the A series lenses to strike a good balance between price vs performance. The only thing you are giving up is AF. you can still use AV mode. M42 lenses are kind of fun but it is quite a hassel changing lenses as unscrewing takes much more time. Also removing the adapter is a pain as you need a pen or other sharp object
