Just got my M42 Helios 44-2

Hello,

I just received my screwmount Helios 44-2. The lens has seen way far better days, but it seems to work properly. I now need a chance to test it with the Spotmatic.
According to the seller in Moscow, the serial number indicates this lens is from 1972. I have no idea how accurate that claim is.

Cosmetics are far from mint

There is a small air bubble inside the back glass element. Not sure how much of an impact that will have on the images.

The aperture ring works smooth but there are some traces of oil in the blades.

Some micro scratches here and there

The fact that it is not mint actually adds to the character and patina of the camera itself. Don't you think?

I mounted it several times but I can't make it to get the numbers scales facing up. Always to the side at an angle. Is that common?

That's all folks!

The truth is this will be more for display than heavy use. BUT, if it turns out to work fine it may get used more.

Thanks,

I especially like the Made in USSR. It just says government issued to me, no frills, here is a 44 f2 lens for the masses.

It has seen better decades, I think. I would m42 to K that lens in a second though, haha (or 4/3 - 88mm f2, mmm).

Congrats on your lens. It looks like it documented the battle of Stalingrad!

I hope that using the lens will change your mind about keeping it mostly for display. It's probably my favourite lens for people shots.

Congratulations !!

You have a lens with life. The scratches in the front lens not affect the IQ.

Your lens is an old soldier that will give to you excelents pics as did in the past for others.

Very good lens, nice bokeh and neutral colors.

I got this lens from the Zenit-E It's built in 72. The serial number says it so: 7221050. The first two digits are the year of production
