I'd prefer they come out with a DA 28 2.4 or DA 24 2.8.

I don't think 28 is going to happen unless:
a) they are planning FF in which case they'd keep it f2.8 I believe
b) they'd plan APSC equivalent of 43ltd, in which case it would be ltd and therefore expensive

on the other side DA24/2 (without any luxuries of * or ltd) just as a pure replacement of FA35 would be sweet! I'd definitely go for that one...

I actually have looked at that lens several times. I take it from the multiplicity of amazement that you really, really, really like the lens <g>. Anything to say about it other than that it's amazing? I don't *dislike* Sigma lenses, but I'd have to say every one I've owned was adequate, but not up to the Pentax glass I replaced it with (eventually). Is the 30mm 1.4 a replacement for the 31mm f1.8, or is it just a good stepping stone to the Pentax?

Thanks!
I don't have much experience (if any) with the 31 Limited, but Canon folks regard it as a BETTER choice than the Canon 35mm f/1.4 L (~$1000 lens!) for crop shooters

I also see no need to get anything to "upgrade" from the Sigma, and you might even say the $1200 Canon 24-70L lens I just bought was just a lateral move (and quite possibly a downgrade @ 30mm )

What I find a little disturbing is that current Pentax lenses (excluding all the old stuff) are now more expensive (in SA)- consumer zooms and primes - than Canon,Nikon and even Olympus equivalents e.g. Nikon 300 f4 vr is actually less then the Pentax 300

Even Oly has suddenly got quite a decent (if not larger) consumer lens line up.

I'm sure it is quite possible to make a 35mm f/2 for $300>. The FA is discontinued and that's why the price for it is so high now. Also if they make it a DA, the optics will be cheaper.

I have the Pentax-A 35mm f2.8 and find it very sharp. For my purposes, I don't need the extra stops of speed at that focal length. I have a few 1.4 lenses and I rarely even shoot at 2.8 with those.
