Pentax 35mm 1.8

I just saw that the Nikon 35mm 1.8 is in stock at B&H for 199.95....

At a time that Pentax seems to be raising prices of all of it's lenses, I would love a $200 35mm f1.8 prime. Just sayin'

Hey Chris...

I got a small bucket full of 35mm mf lenses... It would be nice for me and the rest of the Pentax world to have an AF option Pentax that does not break the bank like the 500 dollar DA 35, and 1000 dollar FA 31...

I am thinking more for the average joe and joanna, just getting their camera.

although I don't normally use AF, I agree. Pentax needs more less expensive more sought after lenses just like this. one of the biggest complaints people have with the Pentax system is lack of lenses. the limited's are great, and so are the DA*'s, but they come at a premium, a premium a lot cant afford. quality lenses that fit in between the consumer grade such as the regular DA, and the high end limiteds and *'s is what people want. if pentax had a quality 35mm 1.8, 50mm 1.4, 28mm 2, etc, etc. that gave them quick shift, weather resistance (like the new kit lenses) and SDM... man people would be all over such lenses. hell you could simplify it and just make them regular DA WR, but just get them out there.... this is the main reason people go looking for A, M & K series lenses in just these focal lengths, and forgo AF, etc. because thats they only option they have that's affordable.

A redesigned fa 35/2 with WR + quickshift would be a hit! Under $300 would be reasonable price though, I would prefer not to have a plastic mount!

the DA WR's do not have a plastic mount. only the DA L's. and I don't imagine Pentax would give such lenses a plastic mount.

If the old FA35 goes for 500 I can't see new DAWR version selling for under 300!
Non WR plastic mount 35/1.7 or 1.8 maybe but even that's hard to beliieve looking at the current pricing of Pentax lenses. It would be nice option though, especialy as 35/2 is getting harder to get.

why not? Pentax already has a new design for the DA series with the WR. we now have a kit lens with WR, I see no reason why Pentax couldn't put out a 1.8 35mm in the same configuration for under 300 bucks. if we have a WR 18-55mm, there is no reason to not start offering such lenses at a lower price with WR. the SDM I suppose is another issue though.

I think the reason for the reluctance to make a cheap 35mm is the existence of DA 35 macro. The focal length is already pretty crowded with DA, FA, and FA Lim, which is why I'm guessing the FA got discontinued. IN comparison I believe the Nikon only have one other option from the film age that's not AF-S, CMIIW.

A cheap 35mm would've been nice, but I think the having instead the DA 35 macro would be worth it They just need to upgrade that slow autofocus...

again:
if NON WR f2 lens markets for 500 how do you want them to market faster and WR lens for less????
Plus as Andi wrote 30-40 sector is quite crowded by now...

I just got an email from Amazon with the FA 50 f/1.4 in it with the price "TOO LOW TO SHOW". It was being sold by Adorama so I decided to click it and see what the price was.... $274!!! I remember when I bought that thing for $199 at B&H. I'm not complaining, I'm just saying....

because you are comparing an FA FF lens to a DA lens. big difference. but its not about just 35mm, reread my first post in this thread.

I know what you mean.
I was in srs up in Watford yesterday (really nice shop with great staff) and they have used FA50/1.4 for 175GBP. I remember that when I was buying DA40 in the may last year, FA50 were going for 149 new!
oh well... I'm so glad I got my F50/1.7 for 25

I did reread it 2x and I'm still skeptical.
Pentax never had 35 faster than f2 so they'd have to do new design, plus it's not about costs but about pricing strategy. It wouldn't make a sesnse for the to have sub 300 good(ish) fast 35 if they are trying to market 31 and 35 ltds for the prices they are...
