Hoya 28mm F2.8 PK Wide Auto?

I've just taken a bit of a gamble on an old Hoya HMC 28mm F2.8 wide auto lens, after doing quite a lot of reading on the www I only came up with about 2/3 comments on the lens..all was very positive though so thought I'd give it a try...got it for very little

Anyone on here own/used one at all?

thanks

Simon

Sorry to bump the thread but I was hoping someone might have experience of this lens, I guess the lack of response means it's not the case?

thanks

Simon,
to be honest I never even heard of that lens. But...
I used to own Hoya HMC 135/2.8. Fully manual. Tad soft wide open, but from f4 to f8 sharper than my Sifma 105 macro. Built like a tank (and I seriously mean that it would give FA ltds run for the money in this respect) and sliding built in hood was a nice touch. Unfortunately the colour reproduction wasn't greatest and the HMC wasn't that great either (the lens lost a lot of contrast in direct sunlight).
all in all I don't own it anymore, exchanged it for old flash.
but good luck with 28.

BR
Peter

PS: when I was researching the 135 I couldn't find absolutely anything on it...

A review...

Thanks Peter,

Some info I did find was this review here:

Hoya f2.8 28mm.jpg photo - steve flynn photos at pbase.com

It convinced me to take the chance, not that it's much of a gamble, I paid Ģ16

16GBP?
where from?
anyway, let me know how is the lens when it'll arrive. And if it won't work out just remember I still have the Sigma 24/2.8 available.

I spotted it on ebay, described as "mint" condition so I'll see how it goes - I'll definitely bear you in mind if it doesn't work out though

thanks

I have this lens. Itīs made by Tokina. Not bad from f4, very low CA. Constant sharpness from center to corners. Good for landscapes.

Sample at f5.6

Please ignore the subject, itīs just good test scene with lots of details.

Looks nice & sharp, I'll be shooting around F8/F11 95% of the time so it looks like I may have found myself a bit of a bargain - it should arrive in a couple of days so fingers crossed !!

I have sample at f8 of the same scene. The differences are negligible. This Hoya is much better than my copy of Vivitar 28/2.8 (made by Komine).
I do my test shots with zero PP, hence dull colors and no exposure correction.

According your website, you have lots of better opportunities to show how good this lens can be.

Well just received this lens and after a few tests shots I find that it pretty poor, nowhere near as sharp as my Pentax DA 17-70...one for the trash !!
