New Owner K110- Lens Question

Well, I'm not an official owner yet, it's been shipped. I upgraded from a Luminex FZ15.

The main reason I bought this camera is that I had a Pentax back in the 80's (ME Super) and it took great pictures. I liked the option of being able to use the older K lenses and that this camera has stabilization (luminex had it, and it was great).

I needed a camera with a decent sensor so I can take non-flash indoor pictures of my son's basketball games and my daughter's dance recitels - both of which are indoors and under low lighting conditions.

I am considering a fixed lens, perhas in the 85MM range at 1.8 for such shots.

Any recommendations on one that doesn't cost more than the camera I just bought? Does this seem reasonable lens for my needs?

It doesn't have to be autofocus, nor new.

Thanks!

Hi varnco,
Congrats on getting this fine camera. I too had that as a big reason for upgrading to dSLR. Prime lenses are great and 50mm 1.7s or 1.4s are being traded quite commonly on eek-bay, sorry.. eBay. People are going overboard with bids at the moment, but you might get lucky. I watched a Pentax star M-85mm 1.8 prime go for a soul-crushing US$780 there. So how much would an FA or DA cost?!?

If you're going to be close enough to the action, 85mm may suffice, but 135mm may be better - you'll have to be the judge of that. 135mm primes also feature regularly on eBay, but choose wisely - some don't suit K100/110D.

Oops

I meant a k100, the K110 doesn't have IS

I've searched the forum, and haven't had any lucking finding out which older prime lenses are compatible with the K100.

Is there such a list? of Pentax and non-Pentax lenses that fit?

Thanks.

Any K mount will work, for the fully manual lenses you have to enable the "use aperture ring" in the custom menu. I have two fully manual lenses for my K110D and they work like a charm !! I was very lucky to win a K1000 film camera that had a pristine SMC-M 50MM F1.4 lens on it, got both for $71.00 shipped, the camera is like new too !! I'll probably sell it to make some of that cash back, or maybe trade it for another old piece of glass, lol I also won a Tokina 28 MM F2.8 for the whopping price of $25.00 shipped, and so far i really like this lens, it seems pretty sharp to me !! Here is a shot i took with it yesterday afternoon.

Nice Pix!

I'll keep an eye out for a 1.8 - 2.0 85mm prime.

I'm also keeping an eye out for a 1.4 50MM as well.

My wife will use the kit lens that comes with the camera, for general point and shoot pictures.
