I wish they made that lens in K mount again.

I think for a carry around lens it is great. If its in great shape and you want to sell it let me know :-)

I you need one, I have one in basically LN condition. I only used it for test shots...

Generally the big advantage of thius lens, compared to the Bigma is its small size and compared to the lesser Sigma lenses (120-400) its much better build quality. As all Tokinas (except the el cheapo plastic line, which they sell in Japan), it is simply a very fine piece of engineering. The only thing lacking is a tripod collar.

The shipping would probably "kill" any good deal...although they are few and far between on ebay and KEH etc...

Have this lens for slightly over a year

Ever considered disposing it, but just love it's portability

At least for me, weight and size is very important.

It's exactly these qualities that made it so difficult for me to part with it

General complaints against it are:

1) Slow

2) Softness at 400mm.

They aren't that bad

Every lens has its limitations. Use them regularly, understand it and you're a happy photographer

The pictures attached to the original post seek to challenge these 'weaknesses'

What are your opinions please :ugh:

Are they 'useable'

Sorry, I find it very hard to comment on these images, as they are small, dark and not all of them seem to be in focus or blurred (the helicopter for instance). As there also no EXIF data... For me it is basically impossible to make any valid comment on contrast and sharpness.

My apologies

My first attempt to post pictures in here and really, I don't know how best to get them done

#1 is at 180mm F4.5
#2 is at 80mm F4.5
#3 is at 150mm F4.5
#4 is at 400mm F5.6
#5 is at 400mm F5.6.

It's almost sunset when I take these pictures

Thanks for your kind feedback

That is a very nice lens. I had the Tokina SD 400mm--as Ben says, the build is fine engineering!
