This is a wonderful lens and i am so happy i got it.
I needed to tweak the camera settings a little bit mainly because the lens is naturally contrasty. For example, the DA 40 limited gave true to life images straight out of the box(brilliant lens) without any customizing but that is a case of a Pentax lens matching a Pentax camera.
So my first few shots with the Tammy seemed to be too contrasty so i tweaked!

The lens is very sharp from wide open.
The bokeh it gives is just gorgeous in my opinion.
THE BOKEH IS IDENTICAL AT 2.8 AND 3.5
It hunts a bit in AF but i like to manually focus anyway and due to its 1:3 macro you need to concentrate on your manual focus because it is very fine and accurate!

The colour is wonderful and it performs well in low light.

I really like its tripod collar too

congrats on your new "baby".
It's a great lens indeed. I just wish you that your copy will not be plagued by any of the problems reported by folks across the brands.

Come on guy's, give me a break, I was torn between the the DA 50-135 & Tamron SP 70-200mm.

Went ahead & ordered the DA 50-135 from B&H & now this thread

This is not helping my LBA, should'a got the Tamron or Pentax

Thats funny because i was torn between the Tammy or the Pentax 50-135 2.8.
But given that the Tammy was $400 cheaper and it has 65mm more reach and by all reports excellent IQ...I thought it was a no brainer in the end.
Enjoy your pentax while i enjoy my 'Ruby'

I was in the same boat before price hike. I ended up with Tamron, which broke down on my so now I'm with the DA*. I miss the extra 65mm but I love that it's quiet (Tamron has loud AF indeed) and much smaller/lighter. And what's even better it even leaves me with space (even if no money) to purchase longer lens later on
good excuse isn't it

I wouldn't sweat it too much. I did some A/B side-by-sides on my K20D before buying the DA* 50-135, with clearly superior IQ and focus accuracy (but not faster focusing - that was a wash). The Tammy is an excellent lens, don't get me wrong, but the DA* is better.

good to know.
I never had chance to do side by side comparison, but it feels good to read that others did with positive results for DA*
Thank you.

As you know I would like a comparison between this one and the Sigma which I will receive today. If you dn't mind I will post some sample shots here maybe this weekend.

If your up to it jackbullet, we could take simular shots with same settings. Let me know if you are game.

Disclaimer: I am not trying to discredit the Tamron in anyway I just think it would be helpful to all to have a thread with side by side comparisons. For all I know the Tamron will kick the Sigmas butt. I know they are both good lenses.
