I use the smallest extension tube to get around the minimum focus issue...

That was going to be my next test...

The short ext tube and the 200mm

What is the min focus with that set up?

I should try out the ext tube too. I think I would find it a bit hard to use though since the lens is already pretty slow at f/4, and need to be stopped down a stop (it can't stop down less than a stop anyway) for better performance.

I'm at work now so can't say for sure, but I seem to recall that it reduced the min. focus from 9 feet to 2 or 3 feet...

Actually, I found it pretty easy to use with the 200mm 3.5. It's a preset, though, so it was fairly easy to focus wide open and then stop down a half-stop or full stop. I tried the same thing with the Tele-Takumar 400mm 5.6 and things seemed ALOT darker, even outside during daytime.
